we found that abandoned hotel off the highway
wandered the halls uncovering forgotten trash
gathered all dust and debris from the corners, and set fire to it in the lobby
sat into the small hours telling ghost stories

weeds pouring up through the cracked concrete
like convicts stretching their arms out on work release
flickering flames reflecting in your eyes, dancing like shadows in the graveyard images of your past lives
